Volunteering at HyperCon is one of the BEST ways to experience the ins and outs of convention! In the following application, please express your interest in any one or more of the departments available. Wherever possible, we'll place you with your interest!
ATTENDEE EXPERIENCE
These teams are the "face" of the convention. They are the first people attendees see and the ones who keep the energy positive.
- Registration & Ticketing: Handles MultiPass pickup, on-siteMultiPass sales, and checking IDs. You'll need to be fast, organized, and good under pressure.
- Information Desk & Customer Service: The organic databank of the con. You'll answer questions about the schedule, bathroom locations, lost and found, local food spots and more.
- Crowd Control: Crucial for high-traffic areas like the main entry, stage shows and major panel rooms. They keep lines packed tightly but safely, ensuring aisles stay clear.
- Merchandise & Con Store: Manages the convention's official merchandise booth, tracking inventory and handling sales.
PROGRAMMING and EVENTS
This department ensures that the actual content of the convention happens on time.
- Panel & Room Operators: Stationed at the doors of panel rooms to check badges, manage room capacity, and assist speakers with basic setup needs (like passing out a microphone for Q&A).
- Main Stage / Events Crew: Helps coordinate large-scale events like the Cosplay Contest or opening/closing ceremonies. They assist with back-stage queuing, contestant check-ins, and basic stage management.
- Gaming Zone (Tabletop & Electronic): Watches over the free-play console area, organizes board game libraries, or helps coordinate local tournaments.
- Exhibitor Support: These departments deal directly with the people selling goods or showcasing their work.
- Artist Alley & Vendor Support: Helps creators and vendors check in, find their booths, and handles "table sitting" so solo creators can grab food or take a quick bathroom break.
LOGISTICS
The behind-the-scenes heroes who make sure the physical infrastructure functions.
- Operations (Con Ops): The central hub. This team handles volunteer check-ins, shift scheduling, radio distribution, and acts as dispatch when a situation arises.
- Logistics & Setup/Teardown: The heavy lifters. They help set up pipe-and-drape, place signage, move boxes of badges, and pack everything back into storage crates when the weekend ends.
- Cosplay Repair Station: A highly popular specialized booth equipped with hot glue guns, safety pins, sewing kits, and duct tape to help attendees fix wardrobe malfunctions.
